Web Development is something that has always intrigued me. I remember when we got our first computer, my Dad brought it home and the excitement to open it was just too much. We got it all set up and ready to go, flipped the switch and that little yellow prompt was flashing in DOS. I was hooked.
That first computer was a window into another life, a life I could never of imagined. The blocky white box, with its black screen and yellow font staring back at me could keep me sitting there for hours, trying to figure out what to do with the command line. After a few weeks, I was like "This is kind of boring", then my Dad says, "It came with some games, but I was holding out on them, because I wanted to see how much you really wanted to dig into this machine."
He handed me those big 5.25 inch floppy disks, and I slid it into the opening and my eyes opened wide to what was now showing up on the screen. Sure, they were nothing like the amazing games we now have in today's times, but at that time, there wasn't even a video game console other than pong, if I recall. It wasn't until a few years later came Sega, NES, Atari, and Nintendo. There may be a couple I'm forgetting, but it was that Atari that came first into our house.
But that is what led me to always want to become a web developer. My dad bought me some books on HTML. CSS wasn't even out yet, so trying to build a site was quite the pain. Years passed and I wold find myself forgetting about that little pc sitting there, but would always end up being drawn back in every so often to that black screen.
Time passed and advances were made in the pc world. Windows transformed that little machine into something captivating. Something with a UI that made this box so much more fun to use. And my desire was sparked again, but I never really did much more than fiddle with HTML. I wish I could go back and tell myself to do things differently, and buckle down and study hard and learn all you can.
